CLIF Kid Mobile App

Overview

This project was brought to us as a partnership with AnalogFolk, for our insights in user experience, user interface and development for mobile applications. I was part of all phases in this project from discovery to implementation.

My Role

A collaborative culture with lean UX

Lead a kickoff meeting with project stakeholders and working session to review project objectives, identify key audience and application requirements, review material and select key providers for research activities. From discovery I created personas and users flows to align with user needs and business goals for the application.

Starting on the same page

Assess and document recommendations based on our discovery phase for working with AnalogFolk to define co-creative working relationship. This project was a collaborative process between both Emerge Interactive owning UX and Build, and Analog Folk owning Visual Design.

Focusing on features Goals

Facilitate a feature prioritization workshop to establish a product roadmap that takes into consideration time to market plans and budget, user benefit, business value, and technical complexity. A final presentation of the recommended mobile concepts derived from research.

EXPERIENCE STRATEGY & VISION

Explored concepts and solutions to create a user experience that brings together the business, user and technical objectives. l lead all aspects of User Experience and consulted with AnalogFolk during the Visual Design phase to ensure UI elements would meet mobile best practices.

Insights

During the discovery phase I worked alongside a mobile strategist to identify top competitors, analyze them, and craft a to-market strategy to gain the most traction for launch. I conducted user and stakeholder interviews as well as analyzed surveys from our target audience to create user personas and scenarios. This was very important to align all stakeholders with who our target audience was to make decision making easy based on empathy with our users and not insert any biases.

UX Strategy

Once I completed user personas and had all our features mapped from the prioritization workshop, I created a feature/user flow to help stakeholders understand where these features lived in the ecosystem. This feature flow was a document we referenced throughout the project as a single source of truth, keeping all team members accountable for the research done early on based on data and best practices, not opinions.

Wireframes

There were multiple rounds of wireframes completed throughout this process. I iterated on multiple experiences for the application until we landed on something that was unique enough for the space yet informative that we would be sure to have great adoption from our users.

Prototyping was a very important part of the process and was used for user testing and confirmation of experiences built within the application. I tested prototypes with users as white-boarding sessions and full functioning axure wireframes.

User Testing

We tested this application with users at multiple points along the project. From early testing during the wireframing phase, to a followup with visual comps to ensure that UI elements were intuitive for our users.

I worked with Usertesting.com to create 4 testable scenarios and rounds of questioning for our targeted demographic. Once finished testing I was in charge of analyzing the data and creating recommendations that met best UX and mobile practices to enhance the application before build.

Visual Design Direction

Visual design was done by AnalogFolk. We had 4 major rounds of versioning where I was consulted the visual team ensuring that all best UX and mobile practices were being met.

Writing Functional Requirements

After we gained insights on our final user testing, I helped write functional requirements with both our front and backend developers. This was a great experience for me as I created a new layout to represent functional requirements that helped both AnalogFolk and Clif understand every aspect of the allocation before build. This ensured that we were all aligned on the requirements and for a smooth build without any suprises for the many stakeholders involved.
